1934 Value Drug Company was founded in 1934. The first warehouse occupied was located at 5th Avenue and 24th Street. The storeroom was 25′ x 40′. Value Drug Company was then incorporated in 1936.
1941 Value Drug Company, continuing to grow, moved into its second warehouse located at 825 7th Avenue. The new storeroom was 25′ x 100′.
1950 Staff included Bob Housel and Bruce Lingenfelter (part-time).
1964 As of 1964, VDC had 5 employees and 29 customers. Made purchases from Kelly, Hensel and Brenner Wholesalers. Carried product directly from SmithKline and Ortho Pharmaceuticals.
1965 Value Drug Company, continuing to grow, moved into its third warehouse located at 1820 8th Avenue. Value Drug Company sales reached $1,000,000 at this location.
1970 Drenning Trucking Co. was our first delivery service.
1975 Received approved contract from Lilly Pharmaceuticals. Value Drug began to experience tremendous growth.
1979 The first Merchandise Expo was held at the Sheraton Inn (now Altoona Grand).
1980 Value Drug joins NWDA (National Wholesale Drug Association). The organization was renamed in 2000 to Healthcare Distribution Management Association (HDMA).
1980 Value Drug moves into its fourth warehouse in Altoona, PA, expanding to 60,000 square feet.
1990 Value Drug holds the first themed Merchandise Expo (golf).
1994 Altoona Enterprises assembles a $2.5 million financing package to enable expansion of the warehouse to almost twice the square footage.
1996 Warehouse second shift created to provide later cut-off times for customer convenience.
1999 Remote order entry system developed for members.
2000 Paperless picking is introduced to the warehouse.
2003 Value Drug forms Value PAC (Political Action Committee).
2005 Value Drug becomes the first pharmaceutical wholesaler in the country to use a Controlled Substance Ordering System.
2006 Value Drug receives the Business of the Year Award from the Blair County Chamber of Commerce.
2010 Value Drug achieves Verified-Accredited Warehouse Distributors (VAWD) accreditation.
2011 Value Drug establishes Value Specialty Pharmacy (VSP).
2014 Value Drug moves to our current location, a 205,000-square-foot warehouse and office building in Duncansville, PA.
2014 Value Drug Company forges a partnership with TraceLink for Data Storage and Reporting to meet the Track and Trace requirements for DSCSA Implementation.
2015 Value Drug receives the Technology Award from the Blair County Chamber of Commerce.
2015 Value Drug introduces the ValueDrugHub mobile app, the first pharmaceutical wholesaler to provide a mobile app for order receiving and discrepancies.
2016 Value Drug introduces the CP Specialty Pharmacy Services program to provide community pharmacies with an option for dispensing specialty medications in their own pharmacy.
2016 Warehouse operations software introduced.
2017 Value Drug acquires Restore RX, a Bristol, Tennessee-based specialty pharmacy with nationwide delivery capabilities.
2017 Order Error Rate first hits 0.007%.
2018 Value Drug acquires Tykon, Inc., a Pewaukee, Wisconsin-based software development company.
2018 Dedicated service provided to Kentucky and Tennessee.
2018 Value Drug now provides service to 22 states: CA, CO, CT, DC, DE, FL, HI, IN, KS, KY, LA, MD, NJ, NY, OH, OK, PA, TN, TX, VA, WA, WV, & Puerto Rico.
2018 Value Drug receives the Safety Award from the Blair County Chamber of Commerce.
2018 Value Drug makes Pennsylvania’s list of Best Places to Work.
