Suspicious Order Monitoring (SOM) Program

As a distributor of controlled substances registered with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Value Drug is required to follow the DEA’s Office of Diversion Control regulations under Title 21 CFR §1301.74(b). Our Suspicious Order Monitoring (SOM) program enables Value Drug to fulfill our obligations with the DEA’s regulations and helps us ensure that members are exercising due diligence when dispensing controlled substances, and that the prescription being filled is for a legitimate medical purpose.

At Value Drug, our SOM program is not one-size-fits-all because we understand that each pharmacy, as well as the patient and physician populations it serves, is unique. That’s why we don’t set an average allocation limit for a drug or class of drugs, and prevent the pharmacy from receiving additional orders when that number is reached. Instead, we work with each individual pharmacy to determine its controlled substance prescription requirements and tailor the SOM program to help meet those demands.

As part of the SOM program, our Compliance Department may also:

• Review your dispensing data to confirm compliance with the DEA, determine which prescriptions your pharmacy is filling and provide valuable feedback

• Ensure that every pharmacy understands morphine equivalent dosing of opioids

• Share and discuss information on opioid dosing recommendations

• Discuss the pros and cons of prescribing and dispensing products containing Buprenorphine

• Assist with compliance efforts
