The goal of AAOA is to contribute to solving the opioid crisis in a meaningful way by educating patients about the rights, risks and responsibilities associated with prescription opioids. The initiative is a collaborative effort with diverse partners across the pharmaceutical supply chain, as well as organizations that are experts in public health and healthcare with the Healthcare Distribution Alliance (HDA) providing the initial funding to support the formation of the organization.
AAOA developed the Pharmacy Toolkit in coordination with the National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA), the National Alliance of State Pharmacy Associations (NASPA) and state pharmacy associations. The toolkit is a complimentary suite of resources aimed at helping pharmacists raise awareness among their patients about prescription opioids and navigate difficult but important conversations to help prevent abuse and misuse.
